Trains in Delaware | Late Fall 2025
Delmarva Rail Productions newest video series: "Trains in Delaware" and "Train on the Delmarva Peninsula", a video series featuring a compilation of railroading action in Delaware/Delmarva. These videos were all taken in the month of December, before the first day of Winter Solstice. Timestamps: 0:40 - Redden: Delmarva Central Railroad 05/ Norfolk Southern 63W make its way over the E Redden Rd railroad crossing, slowly due to a speed restriction right after the pavement north of the crossing. This train has a few mixed cars such as hoppers and tank cars but also has the empty stone train. Usually this would go out as it's own unit train with Norfolk Southern (sometimes Delmarva Central Railroad) power but something different has happened here. Delmarva Central Railroad GP38-2 #2503 Delmarva Central Railroad GP38-2 #2502 Norfolk Southern SD70ACe #1122 Norfolk Southern ES44AC #8161 2:20 - Ellendale 3:50 - Williamsville Rd , Milford 4:40 - Harrington: The Delmarva Central Railroad-05 crew leaves their empty stone cars behind at Harrington, we will later see a new crew take the empty stone train north with the two Norfolk Southern engines that are on this train. 6:05 - Dover: HA-1 has brought the Norfolk Southern 63W from the Delmarva Central Railroad-05, now this crew will take this train using the power that was also on the Delmarva Central Railroad-05 Norfolk Southern SD70ACe #1122 Norfolk Southern ES44AC #8161 7:15 - Clayton 10:43 - Millsboro: On a breezy morning 44M loaded grain paces through Millsboro, the pleasant sounding Mixed Cast P5 on the leader breaks through the common town noise as it comes through the Main St, Wilson Hwy, and the Old Landing Rd crossings. Norfolk Southern AC44C6M #4064 (With the Mixed Cast P5) Norfolk Southern AC44C6M #4582 12:10 - Dagsboro: The train crawls as it waits for the crossing signals to activate at Clayton St (State Route 26) as the crossing is currently island together. 14:05 - Frankford: We watch the crew bring two empty hoppers out of Mountaire Farms and shove parts of the loaded train back into there before our time runs out. 22:12 - Terminal Ave, Wilmington: Norfolk Southern K64 leaves Edgemoor Yard with a long train but with a majority being LPG tanks and hoppers. Note the SD40E as the second trailing unit. Norfolk Southern SD60E #6998 Norfolk Southern SD40E #6311 Norfolk Southern SD60E #6999 24:00 - New Castle 27:00 - Newark: Recently getting word of the Norfolk Southern #8098, the Conrail Heritage unit on loaded crude oil train, 66X. We scurry to the Amtrak/SEPTA station to intercept the train. As you can see, we were not the only one there! After the train got its signal from CTC and as it approach Davis Junction to take the Reybold Branch, Porter would be the final place to catch the train again. Norfolk Southern ES44AC #8098 - the Conrail Heritage Unit Norfolk Southern Dash 9-44CW #9936 27:47 - Porter: A shot we've been wanting to get for years, a train that looks as if its climbing a grade, or so it is. The Amtrak's Bear, DE shops are located on the right down grade before the Pulaski Hwy (US 40) but the illusion of the telephoto lens and the track grade makes it seem it is not there. 66X is bound for the Delaware City Refinery in Delaware City located down the line off state route 1 and 7. Crude oil trains mostly pick up in activity during the winter months as heating and propane supply naturally rises due to the cold.
